DIY Ceramic Pot Kit Review: My First Experience with Doowart at Sejong Arboretum

Crafting a cement-look mini pot from foaming ceramic—hands-on, simple, satisfying.

During my recent visit to the National Sejong Arboretum for the Companion Plant Festival, I stopped by a local gardening shop and picked up something that caught my eye—a Doowart DIY pot-making kit. Curious and excited, I finally gave it a try!

🧰 What’s Inside the Kit?

The kit includes materials to make two ceramic-style mini pots:

  • 2 packs of foaming ceramic powder
  • 2 vials of purified water
  • 1 large paper cup
  • 2 small tasting cups (used for shaping)
  • 2 extra paper cups
  • 2 decorative strings
  • 1 pack of topsoil
  • 1 pack of masato (drainage soil)

Note: Plants are not included—you’ll need to prepare those separately.

🛠️ Step-by-Step: Making the Pot

  • Pour the foaming ceramic powder into the large paper cup.

  • Add one vial of purified water and begin stirring or shaking the mixture.

(Tip: I underestimated the amount of water and ended up with a dry mix. Don't be afraid to adjust!)

  • Once the mixture is well blended, place the small tasting cup in the center to form the pot’s shape.

And there you have it—a homemade ceramic-style mini pot!

🤔 What Went Wrong?

Because it was my first time, I didn’t use enough water.
The powder didn’t fully dissolve, so the texture wasn’t smooth.
But even so, the result still had a natural, stone-like texture that felt earthy and handmade.

🌱 Inspiration from Sejong Arboretum

While at the Sejong Arboretum, I saw a beautifully finished sample of the same kit.
Compared to my beginner result... well, let's just say there's room for improvement 😅

Still, the process itself was fun and simple—perfect for a weekend project or gifting idea.

🌵 What I Did With It

At first, I wasn’t sure how to use the finished pot. But after placing a small succulent in it, I was surprised by how good it looked.

The rough cement-like finish gave it a modern, minimal vibe—perfect for desktops or windowsills.

I’ll share the full planting process and result in my next post!

🧠 Final Thoughts

DIY kits like this one offer more than just a product—they provide an experience.
Even with a few beginner mistakes, I felt a sense of satisfaction making something with my own hands.

If you love plants, crafts, or hands-on projects, this Doowart pot-making kit might be just the thing for you.
