🧺 Materials You’ll Need
- 1 plain, white cotton handkerchief (no prints or dye)
- Freshly picked leaves, flower petals, or natural materials
- A clean surface (cutting board or tray)
- A metal spoon (for pounding)
🍃 Step-by-Step: Dyeing with Plant Materials
1. Prepare the Handkerchief
Start with a clean, undyed handkerchief. Cotton works best for natural dyeing.
2. Place Natural Materials
Lay the handkerchief flat.
Place leaves or flower petals on half of the cloth, according to how you plan to fold it. Arrange them creatively—think symmetry or randomness!
3. Fold & Press
Fold the handkerchief in half over the natural materials.
Using the back of a spoon, firmly pound the folded fabric. This helps release the pigments and transfer the colors to the fabric.
