🌿 Exploring National Sejong Arboretum: Peter Rabbit’s Secret Garden and More

A themed plant exhibition, immersive greenhouses, and family-friendly spaces in Sejong, South Korea

Note: This experience was recorded during a visit in October 2023. The “Peter Rabbit’s Secret Garden” exhibition no longer be on display.

1. About the National Sejong Arboretum

Located in Sejong City, the National Sejong Arboretum is one of South Korea’s premier botanical institutions. It offers visitors a chance to explore a variety of global plant environments within its large indoor and outdoor spaces—including three main greenhouses: Tropical, Mediterranean, and Special Exhibition Hall.

2. Seasonal Exhibition: Peter Rabbit’s Secret Garden 🐰🌱

In fall 2023, the Special Exhibition Hall was transformed into “Peter Rabbit’s Secret Garden.” Inspired by Beatrix Potter’s beloved character, this themed exhibition featured photogenic setups, storytelling through greenery, and native Korean plant species woven throughout the displays.

This immersive display was especially popular with families and children. It blended fantasy with botanical education in a creative, charming way.

3. Tropical Greenhouse: A Dense, Humid Jungle

As soon as you enter the Tropical Greenhouse, you're surrounded by lush, moisture-loving plants—many from the Calathea family and tropical regions around Southeast Asia. The diversity of leaf patterns and textures is overwhelming. I even spotted plants that I grow at home!

4. Mediterranean Greenhouse: A Dry Contrast

The Mediterranean Greenhouse offers an entirely different atmosphere—dry, sunlit, and spacious. It reflects the natural habitats of regions like Spain, Italy, and coastal North Africa. It’s also a great spot to compare plant adaptations to different climates.

5. Educational Programs & Art from Nature

One of the most heartwarming elements was seeing art created by children, developed over a two-month plant-based workshop. Sejong Arboretum actively encourages botanical education and mindfulness, especially for young visitors.
